Excavation and site cuts in Melbourne

Trenching, drainage, sewer and site work on commercial, industrial and residential sites, with our own 8 t, 3.5 t and 1.5 t excavators and tip truck.

Trenching and drainage

  • Trenching for pipes and services

A Giant Plumbing worker marks out a long trench across a large building site

Trenches for water, sewer, stormwater and gas lines, power and communications conduit and sub-soil drains on commercial, industrial and residential sites, with bedding, backfill and compaction.

  • Drainage and stormwater excavation

A precast concrete pit lowered into the dig, a Giant Plumbing team member checking its level

New and replacement stormwater lines, drainage pits and connections, sub-surface and agricultural drains, pre-slab drainage on new builds, and drains that pool, overflow, collapse or fill with tree roots, for factories, warehouses, schools, apartment and strata buildings and homes.

  • Sewer excavation

A Giant Plumbing team member lays new PVC sewer pipe in bedding gravel at the bottom of a deep dig

Broken, collapsed and root-damaged sewer pipes, old terracotta lines with displaced joints, new sewer connections and boundary trap renewals, for homes, strata and commercial buildings.

  • Burst water and fire service excavation

A Giant Plumbing team member lowers new pipe beside a blue valve on a water main in an open trench

Under nature strips, footpaths, driveways and lawns: burst and leaking water service lines, broken underground pipes, fire service mains, isolation valves, hydrant branches and fire service backflow devices.

  • Underground service excavation

A Giant Plumbing worker exposes an old cast iron pipe by hand in an excavation

Existing underground services exposed for repair, connection or relocation on commercial, industrial and residential sites, with hand digging around live pipes and cables.

Site work

  • Site cuts and levelling

Cut and fill on sloping blocks, benching, building pads cut to the levels on the plans, and levelling, trimming and compaction before the slab.

  • Tight access excavation

Backyards, narrow side passages, easements and laneways: trenching, drainage, sewer and site work around existing buildings, fences and paths.

  • Demolition and site clean-ups

On our excavation and plumbing jobs: old pits and pipework, paths and garden structures in the way of the work, rubble and debris, and the site left clean.

  • Spoil removal with our tip truck

Clay and mixed soil, rock, rubble, broken concrete and stockpiled fill from trenches, site cuts, demolition and clean-ups.

Why choose Giant for excavation

  • Digging and pipework by one crew

Drainage and water supply are classes on our plumbing licence, so the crew that digs the trench also lays, connects and repairs the pipework in it.

  • Concrete cutting and reinstatement

We cut and break out concrete to reach the pipe, and reinstate the ground when the work is done.

  • Experienced operators

Our excavators are run by our own experienced operators, with close attention to detail around existing services, buildings and fences.

Frequently asked questions

Do you take on excavation on its own?

We take on excavation as a job in its own right, as well as digging for our own plumbing and burst fire service repairs.

Can you excavate inside a factory?

Yes. We excavate inside factories, warehouses and industrial units to reach the drains and services under the floor.

Do you work for builders?

We carry out site cuts, trenching and drainage for builders on larger projects, and for facility managers and homeowners.

Can you dig where a machine cannot fit?

In backyards, side passages and courtyards we use the smallest machine that fits, and dig by hand where none will.

What happens to the spoil?

We load it out with the excavator and cart it away in our own tip truck.
